On March 8th, 2023, the Association for Public Administration (VB) celebrates its 50th anniversary. Preparations for this festive day are in full swing. Minister Bruins Slot, Corien Prins, Wim van de Donk, Geert Bouckaert, Mirko Noordegraaf, Hilke Grootelaar, Nicolette van Gestel, Tom Overmans, and Marlies Honingh, among others, will actively contribute.
For members of the VB, the entrance fee for the event is extra low, only €25 (students members €10). For that amout, the participants will also receive the beautiful jubilee book ‘Social Management’. the jubilee book is already a collecor’s item for anyone who is interested in – and certainly also takes a critical look at – contemporary public administration.
In the jubilee book, various teams of authors, with leading authors such as Katrien Termeer, Paul ‘t Hart, Jet Bussemaker, Edith Hooge, Mark Bovens, Nicolette van Gestel, Romke van der Veen, Halleh Ghorashi, Pieter Tops, and Martijn van der Steen, show that it is time for more social management. This is a public administration science that focuses more emphatically and more visibly on the analysis and approach of social issues. That is more than making a social impact; it is connecting to other academic disciplines and social fields, in which tackling concrete issues is central. Think of climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture, energy transition, migration, housing, poverty, equality of opportunity, labor participation, organized crime, sustainable care, vital democracy, Europe, and digitization.
Various themes from the book are central to workshops during the anniversary event. With this, participants can also make an active contribution to a more contemporary and social administration jubilee.
