Colloquia off-site day November 7th 2024
Below, please find a description of the colloquia and their activities on the off-site day. The deadline for application is Thursday October 31st at 12:00.
Critical and Interpretive Public Administration Research (13:30 – 17:00)
Join us for an engaging colloquium event exploring iterative research practices, theorization through visualization, and alternative methods. In this interactive session, Lianne Visser, Kirsty Holstead, and Merlijn van Hulst will delve into abductive analysis, a creative approach that involves dealing with surprises and integrating prior knowledges, this way developing practically relevant theoretical insights. We’ll also discuss and engage in exercises of visualization to map, analyze, conceptualize and communicate qualitative research. This session offers a hands-on opportunity to expand your methodological toolkit and enhance your research practice. It can also be a stepping stone toward more innovative and/or transdisciplinary work!
Geopolitics, Democratic Reform and Resilience in Central and Eastern Europe (10:00 – 12:00 ONLINE)
The colloquium “Geopolitics, Democratic Reform, and Resilience in Central and Eastern Europe” plans to use the NIG Colloquia Day to meet with its members and other interested NIG participants to discuss upcoming activities. This will be a good opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved so far and to explore which events and research activities will be most beneficial to the group in the coming year(s). The meeting will be informal, and all are welcome to attend.
European Union Governance (9:00 – 17:00)
The NIG Colloquium on EU Governance warmly invites you to the NIG Colloquium Day, taking place on Thursday 7 November in Utrecht. Our colloquium will host a session for early career researchers there, where you will have the opportunity to present and discuss your work with your peers from other universities.
The colloquium invites all types of contributions: ranging from articles to chapters, from finished to unfinished products, from research plans to reviewer comments in need for a response, from empirical to theoretical or normative research. The only condition is that it has to relate to EU governance – and that you are willing to also read and discuss someone else’s contribution.
If you would like to take part, please send a message to gijsjan.brandsma@ru.nl (in addition to registering via the form).
Energy and Climate Governance (13:30 – 17:00)
For everybody, particularly us as conference chairs, the Colloquia Off-site day is a possibility to meet you all in person and discuss colloquia-related affairs like future plans, meetings, NIG Panel Gent, member cooperation, etc. We will start with a short presentation about the background and purpose of the research colloquium and discuss updating the goals and research agenda with you. You are also invited to suggest topics you would like to discuss apart from the suggestion above. For instance, if you want to pitch an idea, research or interesting research results with Q&A (i.e. briefly)?
Democratic Innovations: design and impact (9:00 – 17:00)
The NIG Colloquium on “Democratic Innovations: design and impact” invites you to NIG Colloquia Day for a co-writing session for early career scholars working on democratic innovation and citizen participation. The day will start with a series of short pitches, where participants can present their ongoing work and highlight areas where they seek feedback or are encountering challenges. The rest of the day can be used to write on your current project and to further discuss your work with others. Whether you need help refining your theory, addressing a methodological issue, or simply want a sounding board, this session offers an informal space to discuss your research and support others with their projects.
